Sleep problems

Most of us will experience sleep problems at some time or another and can get concerned about how much sleep or the quality of the sleep we’re getting – whether it’s not being able to fall asleep at night, being unable to stay asleep or just not sleeping well…or all three!

Sleep problems can be linked to a medical condition, other factors such as stress or changes in your usual sleeping habits, or have no identifiable cause. Sleep problems can be a short-term or long-term problem.

Treatments for sleep problems will vary depending on the nature and causes of the problem.

You may have concerns about your sleep quality. Treatments usually include trying some initial changes to your lifestyle and bedtime habits. Sometimes behaviour therapy is needed and medications – such as melatonin – can be used to help improve the restorative value of your sleep.

Circadin prolonged release melatonin helps supplement low night-time melatonin, allowing you to reach the required sleep-inducing levels – helping your body prepare for sleep and improving sleep quality and morning alertness.1-3

Improving sleep quality

Getting enough hours of sleep is important but so is getting enough quality sleep.

Sleep quality refers to how well you sleep. If you feel that your sleep is restless, light or of poor quality, then you may not be getting the optimal amount of quality restorative sleep – leaving you feeling tired and unrefreshed in the morning.

Circadin mimics the body’s natural melatonin levels by gradually releasing melatonin during the night (mimicking the natural melatonin day/night patterns)1,2 to help reduce the time it takes to fall asleep (sleep onset time) and improve the quality of your sleep.2,3

Improving daytime functioning

Not getting enough sleep (being sleep deprived) or not getting good quality sleep can leave you feeling tired, grumpy, or irritable, as well as having to deal with dozing-off during the day and generally not working at your best.

Melatonin plays a central role in the body’s sleep-wake cycle – promoting healthy sleep and helping to set our natural circadian rhythm. Circadin supplements your decreased melatonin levels allowing you to have good quality sleep during treatment – so you can sleep better and live better.*2,3

When to talk to your doctor

Having sleep problems can be annoying and frustrating, and worrying about not sleeping only adds to the problem. If you’re concerned about your sleep, it’s important to seek professional support. Your doctor can advise you on the best options for your sleep problem. Alternatively, you can speak directly to your pharmacist.

To get the best results when taking Circadin, it’s important to regularly take your tablet around the same time each night (after food, 1-2 hours before going to bed).

If your sleep problem persists or you are concerned about anything talk to your doctor.

Remember to tell your pharmacist or doctor about any medications you are currently taking BEFORE starting Circadin.
